The content rhythm: what to publish when you don't have puppies

Welcome back to Found. Issue eleven.

A breeder's marketing pattern looks like this. Nothing for three months. A litter is born. A flurry of Facebook posts, a photo sent to an old waitlist, maybe an Instagram reel. Puppies sell. Everyone goes quiet. Three months later, the cycle repeats.

This is not laziness. It's how the job works. When puppies are on the ground, you have urgency. When they aren't, the urgency evaporates and marketing drops to twelfth on a long list of real tasks.

The problem is Google and ChatGPT don't work on your schedule.

What Google sees when you're quiet

Algorithms reward freshness. A site that publishes nothing for six months tells Google the kennel might be dormant. Competitors who keep publishing climb. You slip. By the time your next litter hits the ground, your search ranking for "Pomeranian breeder in Wisconsin" has dropped two pages. The buyers Google sends you go to the breeder who kept the lights on.

The fix is not marketing harder when you're exhausted. It's a small, steady rhythm that runs between litters.

The weekly one-post rhythm

One blog post a week. 600 to 1000 words. That's the minimum Google wants from an active kennel site.

One post a week sounds like a lot. It isn't. You already know this stuff. You answer the same questions on Facebook DMs and phone calls every week. Writing down what you already say is the entire trick.

The five evergreen topics every breeder can mine

None of these require a new litter, a new photo shoot, or new research. They sit in your head already.

  1. Breed education. Your breed's history, temperament, care needs, typical lifespan, common health questions, breed-specific training quirks. A buyer Googles these questions before they search for a breeder. Your posts should be part of the answer.
  1. Raising puppies. Your socialization protocol, your feeding schedule, what the first eight weeks look like, why Early Neurological Stimulation matters, how puppies go home crate-trained. Buyers reading this are pre-sold by the time they hit your contact form.
  1. Health and testing. What tests you do and why, what the results mean, what to ask any breeder about testing, what the common genetic issues are in your breed. This positions you as an expert and screens out uninformed buyers.
  1. Your kennel story. Why you started, what you've learned, what you're proud of, what you wish you'd known at the beginning. Buyers buy from people they know.
  1. Buyer guides. How to choose a breeder, red flags to avoid, questions to ask, what ownership actually costs in year one. Being the source who tells the truth here wins trust against breeders who don't.

One post a week pulled from those five buckets. 52 posts a year. You'll never run out of material.

The 20-minute post formula

Open a voice recorder. Talk for 10 minutes answering one buyer question out loud, the way you'd answer it on the phone. Transcribe it (free tools: Otter, Descript, built-in iOS voice memos transcription). Edit for clarity in 10 minutes. Publish.

That's your post. It's in your voice, which is the only voice that sounds real on a breeder site.

What the platform does for you

The platform I'm building writes one new breed-specific post for your kennel every month automatically. Your voice, your breed, your angle, but the writing and publishing is handled. The rhythm keeps, whether or not you touch the site.

What to do this week

Pick one:

  1. Write down the 10 questions buyers ask you most often. That's your next 10 blog posts.
  1. Open a voice memo on your phone. Answer one of those questions out loud for 10 minutes. Transcribe it. You have a post.
  1. Grab a free visibility audit. Content freshness is one of the scored areas.
