Progressive Web App
A website that behaves like a native mobile app, installable to the home screen and working without an app store.
In more detail
PWAs give breeders mobile app functionality, such as offline support, home-screen installation, and a fast app-like experience, without native app store distribution. The mobile photo upload tool is a PWA so breeders can snap and post one-handed from the whelping box without a separate download.
App convenience without the app store
A native app means an App Store listing, a separate build for iPhone and Android, approvals, and updates the user has to install. A Progressive Web App skips all of that. It is a website that can be added to a phone's home screen and then behaves like an app: full screen, fast, and usable without typing a URL. For a breeder, that means the tools you use most are one tap away on your phone, with nothing to download and nothing to keep updated.
Why it matters for photo upload
The single most-skipped breeder task is keeping photos current, because the old way, transferring photos off a phone to a computer and then up to a website, has too much friction to do during a busy litter. Delivering the upload tool as a PWA removes that friction. You photograph a litter on your phone and post it to the right page in seconds, one-handed, standing in the whelping room. The task that used to wait for a free afternoon becomes something you actually do, which is the whole point.
Common questions
Do I need to download anything to use a PWA?
No. You visit the site once and optionally add it to your home screen. There is no app store and nothing to install or update manually.
Does a PWA work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. A single PWA works across modern phones, which is part of why it is simpler than maintaining separate native apps.
